Spiritual Oversight

CHANGE IS COMING SOON—AND THAT IS A GOOD THING—

Pastor Brennan Woell visited with some of our congregation’s leaders last Tuesday. He is in the process of seeking God’s will about whether he should continue at St. Luke’s in Nunica or come here to St. Paul. Regardless of his decision, some changes are coming soon here at St. Paul. One change beginning today is that the Pastor Riggs will be sharing the opening announcements and the children’s message. This will free up some time for staff for other activities that they have during the busy fall season. Regardless of who shares the message, may every message shared here be rooted in God’s Word for us today.

Office info

We still have one shift if anyone would be interested in coming in to answer the phone, please call the Church Office at 810-231-1033. It is Monday, September 16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thank you everyone for helping.

Volunteers Are Needed

The LCMS Michigan District is Having their Staff meeting here on October 24, 9:00am. Volunteers are needed to put together a Breakfast before the meeting. More details to come.

Nursery

Nursery Volunteers Needed –

With a commitment of only one hour one Sunday morning a month, the youngest members of our congregation, our infants and their families, could be the recipients of your loving, warm and compassionate caring. The nursery is currently looking for volunteers for all three hours – the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services as well as Education Hour. Contact Barb Nettleton by phone (810 355 4350) and leave a message, put a note in her mailbox at church with your contact information, or email at maxbarb@charterme.net.  There is a critical need at this time for people to serve St. Paul in this capacity.

Fall Festival is today from 12 – 3 pm

Please join us behind the office building for an afternoon of food, games, and fellowship! There are activities for all ages and door prizes. We hope you are able to join us for this afternoon of fun!

Christian Education

Blast off into this year’s Christian Education kick-off today, Sunday, September 8!

Our theme for this year’s event is GLOW – God lights our Way, remembering Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my Light and my Salvation.” Parents and students will gather to kick-off a new year of Sunday school in the lower level, for a parent/student event. Come and join us for our GLOW Sunday! Register for Sunday school here: https://tinyurl.com/StPaulSS2019

Adult Education Hour

A HANDFUL OF GOSPEL—The fingers on your hand can be used to outline the message of the Gospel. Come to Sunday morning adult class and learn how. It can lead to both a better understanding of your faith and something you can share with others.

Fresh Brew

We have begun a book study on “Not Forsaken” by Louie Giglio. The author does a great job of reminding us we have a wonderful heavenly Father who will not forsake us. You are invited to join us at 7:30 am for some Bible study, conversation and a cup of coffee. There is room for you around the table.

Monday Women’s Bible Study

Women’s Bible study will meet on Monday, September 9. We will begin a 2-week study of the prophet Joel.

Men’s Saturday Morning Bible Study

Men will enjoy a healthy breakfast together, and then you are invited to join in the new Bible study topic, “Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapter 3.” We will meet next Saturday, September 14. Breakfast is served at 8:30 am.

New Women’s Bible Study – Job Discover an Unlikely Joy

On Thursday from October 10 – November 14 Sally Bucrek will lead the discussion of the workbook. There will be two sessions, 1:00pm – 2:30pm and 6:30 – 8:00pm. Each session includes a video by author Lisa Harper. Cost for the workbook is $13.99. (Let Sally know if cost is an issue). Sign up for a workbook by October 1 or call the church office at 810-231-1033 to order a copy.

Family Ministry

Kids’ Connection During the 11 am Divine Service

This activity is a time for 3-year-olds through 2nd-grade students during the 11:00 am Divine Service. The lesson today is “Ten Bridesmaids” found in Matthew 25. Children leave for Kids’ Connection after the children’s message and return when the offering is received so that they may participate in a blessing at Holy Communion as well as the close of the worship service.

Entering Sunday School Milestone Workshop & Blessing

If your child is new to Sunday school, please join us on Sunday, September 15 for a special blessing and workshop! Students will be called forward for a special blessing at whichever service you attend, and there will be a parent and child introduction to Sunday school during the Education Hour at 9:45 am. After the brief introduction, children will join the preschool class.

Sunday of Service – October 6th

We will be providing an opportunity to connect the members of St. Paul to their neighbor through acts of service on Sunday, October 6. A ministry action team is working to identify local work projects in the community of Hamburg, through our Compassionate Care ministry, and from needs of St. Paul members. Congregational members will have the opportunity to sign up for specific work projects as a family, both on and off site, to share the love of Jesus through our working hands. Members will be sent out to work following our worship service and will return for a luncheon. All ages, abilities, and mobility levels will have opportunities to serve. Please let the church office know of any work projects that you or someone else might need assistance with around their homes.

Youth

Youth Bible Study for High School students will begin Sunday, September 8. The topic is Cold-Case Christianity. Students will learn 10 investigative principles and apply them to God’s word. This is going to be an awesome study. The class meets at 9:45 a.m. in the youth study room (Room 4) on the lower level. Four critical questions will be asked. Were they: present?… corroborated?… accurate?… biased?

Youth Confirmation classes have begun and will meet next on Sunday, September 15, 6:30 – 8:00 pm.

Holy Huddle (confirmation students) will meet with parents beginning Sunday, September 15 participating in a study “Confirmation Journey”. This class will begin at 9:45 a.m. with gathering in the Holy Huddle room and move to the multipurpose room for a continuation of learning activities. Confirmation students will meet without parents in a special session today at 9:45 a.m.

Prayer Partners/Faith Mentors

Our prayer partner ministry is expanding! Confirmation students will be asking adults to become their faith mentors for the year. The purpose of faith mentors are to (1) expand each youth’s circle of trusted adults in the congregation who will care about them and listen to them, (2) enable youth to learn and see how another adult lives out the Christian faith, (3) offer each student a unique and personalized learning experience, and (4) involve more adults in the lives of youth. Please consider saying yes to the young person who may approach you. Information packets are available in the narthex or from Miriam.
