Adult Bible Study Opportunities

Islam and Christianity

Rev. Dr. Scott Yakimow during the Education Hour will lead a Bible study about the relationship between Islam and Christianity, “Oh that Ishmael might live in Thy Sight: A Christian Approach to Islam.”

“Forgiveness” at Fresh Brew

Fresh Brew study continues the topic, “Forgiveness.” Have you ever struggled with considering the phrases from the Lord’s Prayer, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us” and thought ‘Gee, I hope not…I don’t do very well at forgiving?’ The study tool will be a resource from Ambassadors of Reconciliation that guides us through significant Biblical material on the art of forgiveness. God has a healing response in His Word. Join us, come and be healed, come and be renewed. Fresh Brew meets Sundays in the large fellowship hall at 7:30 am.

Monday Women’s Bible Study

We will not meet tomorrow, Monday, May 28. Take an opportunity to remember and give thanks for those who sacrificed for the cause of freedom. We will meet next on Monday, June 4, at 11:00 am. Our Topic will be “Forgiveness How am I reconciled to God?” Join us for a discussion on the exceptional topic.

Men’s Saturday Morning Bible Study

Men enjoy a healthy breakfast. We have been working on a new study titled, “Discipleship Explored.” The study is based on Paul’s letter to the brothers and sisters in Philippi, and we have just begun. To save on costs of mailing so many newsletters, we use bulk mail rate mail which is much slower than 1st class. You can sign up for e-news on the website under How Do I. If you sign up for e-news and would like to discontinue your hard copy, please send a quick email to stpaul@stpaulhamburg.com

Here We Stand 2018 Summer Events

The Reformation 500 is a challenge to congregations to complete 500 miles in 5 months and raise money in the process.

Members of con-gregations and schools are encouraged to form teams that will work together to complete 500 miles by walking, running, and/or biking from May-September 2018. Each month would represent one century since the Reformation occurred in 1517. The Reformation 500 gives members in the Michigan District an opportunity to come together to financially benefit individual congregations and schools while supporting the Michigan District’s Here We Stand campaign, as well as enjoying a summer of physical activity. There is still time to get on board! Visit https://herewestand.michigandistrict.org/thereformation500

Here We Ride II

Here We Ride II is a FREE single-day bike-riding event that will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Bethany, Charlevoix. Here We Ride will take place on the Little Traverse Wheelway—a multi-use paved trail that skirts the beautiful waters of the Little Traverse Bay. There are plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the scenery, and happy volunteers will be stationed along the route. More information and registration can be accessed by visiting: https://herewestand.michigandistrict.org/hereweride

Participants in both events are encouraged to collect pledges for the miles they will walk/ride/run–50 percent of the money raised goes to your congregation or school for its ministry purposes, and 50 percent will go to Here We Stand campaign initiatives. During the summer of 2017, between these two events, teams raised $10,910.81 that went to their congregations and the Here We Stand campaign. For more information, contact Ray Zavada at ray.zavada@michigandistrict.org or Linda Ekong at linda.ekong@michigandistrict.org or call Linda at 888.225.2111 ext. 265.

LCMS Leads NASCAR Worship Service

It is not often that the phrases Michigan District and NASCAR are used together in the same sentence. This first moment of its kind will occur on Sunday, June 10, 2018 as Michigan International Speedway (MIS) hosts its annual 400 mile NASCAR Race. Sunday, June 10, 2018, 10 a.m. at the Michigan International Speedway Fan Plaza The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod in the Michigan District has been extended the opportunity to lead the opening worship service at 10 a.m. on the day of the big race.

Pastor Joel Hess from Emmanuel, Cadillac and his praise team will lead the worship service in the Fan Plaza Driver Q & A Tent. We thank Pastor Hess and his team for their willingness to be worship leaders that day. Pray for this huge undertaking!

MIS has reduced the Sunday race ticket from $79 to $55 to those who order through a special weblink: http://www.mispeedway.com/Vanity-Pages/2018/Sunrise-Service.aspx. When using the special code “LCMS” you will receive the reduced ticket rate and $5 from your ticket will go to benefit Here We Stand ministry initiatives through the Acts 2 Enterprise Urban Outreach programs.

Please share this information with your family, friends, and congregation members.

What a wonderful opportunity this is for us to share the Gospel and love of Christ with all of those who will be attending worship that morning! If you have problems with the link, the office can forward the email to you.
