It can be intimidating visiting a new church for the first time. From the moment you pull into the parking lot, it is our desire for you to see friendly faces and well-marked signs pointing you in the right direction. In the church lobby (some people will call it the narthex) you will find greeters and ushers glad to answer any questions you may have about the church and its ministries.
St. Paul Lutheran Church is located at 7701 East M-36 in Hamburg. When you arrive, you will notice special parking spots designated for our guests. We have plenty of parking for guests and those with special needs. All of our entrances are handicap accessible.
What to Wear
We welcome you as you are – we want you to feel comfortable worshiping. There is no dress code. In the more traditional 8:30 service on Sunday, you might see men in suits as well as in jeans with women similarly dressed. The 11:00 blended service is more contemporary and consequently, the people in attendance may often dress more informally.
Coffee and Sweets
You’re welcome to enjoy the treats or a cup of coffee (available in the small fellowship hall east of the sanctuary). As our guests, the refreshments are free!
When you enter the sanctuary, you’ll be given a copy of the bulletin which has the week’s announcements and an outline for the day’s service. The service and song lyrics are projected on the walls on either side of the altar area. Hymns are sung in the traditional service and contemporary Christian music in the blended service. Ushers are available to help you find a seat.
Children in Worship
We welcome and encourage family worship time. Children learn so much from attending worship with their parents–it’s the beginning of a legacy of setting time aside each week for worship. We provide children’s bulletins which are located on tables just before you enter the sanctuary. If your child should become restless, we do have an area where you can still watch the service while your child “gets the wiggles out”. Ask an usher to show you this space. Children under the age of 4 are welcome in The Kids Korner Nursery.
We celebrate communion during all of our Sunday services. Communion (also known as the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper) is God’s gift through which He acts to impart His forgiveness and strength to communicants. Lutherans believe that Christ’s true body and blood are present in, with, and under the external elements of bread and wine. If you have not been confirmed in a LCMS church, we ask that you speak with a pastor prior to receiving the Lord’s Supper.
There is an offering time when members have the opportunity to offer their contributions to the church and its missions. As our guest, you are under no pressure to give.
During our Sunday morning worship services, we provide a fully staffed nursery for children two months old through Pre-K. The Kids Korner Nursery is located on the east side of the building off of the small fellowship hall where the refreshments are served. A nursery child caregiver will take your information to enter in our check-in system and provide you with a pager that will alert you should you be needed. Parents are encouraged to take their Sunday School aged children 3 years old through high school to the Education Hour at 9:45am. At the Education Hour we offer age appropriate Sunday School classes for three year old children through High School age youth. We also offer opportunities for Bible study for the adults.
At the 11:00 a.m. worship service we offer a program called Kids’ Connection for children three year old through second grade. After the children’s message, the children are dismissed to go to Kids’ Connection. They are returned to the sanctuary during the offering.
Our pastor is available to greet you as you exit the sanctuary following services. You’ll find lots of people sharing in fellowship in the lobby and fellowship hall. Please take this opportunity to come to the Welcome Center for more information.
