Sunday March 17th 1:30 p.m. CALL MEETING

We anticipate that the congregation will be calling a Pastor on Sunday March 17th at 1:30 p.m.  Please mark the date on your calendar and make every effort to be with us. Between now and then, the call committee will be conducting phone interviews with candidates for the call.  Other updates on the call process are part of the February newsletter.  Whomever receives the call will then in effect have two calls.  One would be to continue ministry at his current location.  The other would be to come and serve as the settled pastor here at St. Paul.  We pray that the Lord would lead every step as a Divine Call is truly the work of God among us.

Christian Education

Sunday School

Classes will meet in the lower level from 9:45-10:45. Classes will study the story, “The Sower.”

Fresh Brew

Today we begin a new study on “The Gift of Baptism.” You are invited to join us at 7:30 a.m. for some great Bible study. Good conversation and a fresh cup of coffee.

Pastor’s Sunday class

Dr. Scott Yakimow resumes his presentation and our discussion of ethics as we consider the Christian response to challenges in society. Ethics is one of the classes he teaches at Concordia University in Ann Arbor. We appreciate his leading during this special education opportunity.  This study will continue through Sunday, March 3.

If you desire copies of any prior lessons, please call the church office and let Pastor Riggs know. Wednesday classes are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The class will meet every Wednesday from now until the end of February. The afternoon and evening classes use the same schedule, so you are welcome at whatever time is convenient from week to week.

February 20 Fall of Babylon

February 27 The Millennium & the New Jerusalem

You do not need to read any other book than your Bible to attend. However, if you are interested in reading on your own, a commentary published by Concordia is available for $25. It is marketed as being for the general public but would be a good college textbook on Revelation. Copies are in the back of the church. Speak with Pastor if you wish to purchase a copy.

Monday Women’s Bible Study

The Ladies Bible study meets on Monday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. We will continue our discussion of “Mere Christianity.” If you have the book, read the chapter “Christian Marriage.”

Men’s Saturday Morning Bible Study

Men enjoy a healthy breakfast. We will begin a new study “The Message of James.” We will meet next Saturday, February 23. Breakfast is served at 8:30 am.

New Bible Study option coming soon!

Ladies are invited to join a Bible study on Thursdays, April 4- May 16, from 1:00-2:30 pm.  We will take up the Armor of God, authored by Priscilla Shirer, and grow together in the strength of the Lord as we “struggle against the spiritual forces of wickedness.”  Sally Bucrek will facilitate the 7-week DVD based sessions and ladies will continue personal study using a workbook during the week.

Family Ministry

Kids’ Connection During the 11 am Divine Service

This is a time for 3-year-olds through 2nd-grade students during the 11:00 am Divine Service. The lesson today is “Jesus Teaches about Prayer” found in Matthew 6:5-16. Children leave for Kids’ Connection after the children’s message and return when the offering is received so that they may participate in a blessing at Holy Communion as well as the close of the worship service.

Welcoming Young Children to Church Faith Milestone Blessing

Worship blessing will be on Sunday, February 24 at the worship service you normally attend.

Early Communion Faith Milestone

As part of our Faith Milestones, St. Paul encourages those children who are ready to receive the Lord’s Supper before they are confirmed, an opportunity for parent/child workshops to learn about the Sacrament. Many children are ready to receive the Lord’s Supper in upper elementary when they understand these words, “given and shed for you.” Typically, children are often ready at 4th grade. Those who are interested in attending these series of workshops should see Miriam or email her at miriam@stpaulhamburg.com. The workshops will be on March 3, 10, and April 14. The Faith Milestone Blessing will be at the Maundy Thursday service on April 18th at 7 pm.

Lent in a Bag

Our Lenten Faith challenge invites families and individuals to focus attention on the Lenten season by using our “Lent in Bag” Devotion items. Lent in a Bag items will be available beginning on February 24.

Faith Family Reunion Retreat – Saturday, April 27 from 9 am – 3 pm

All of us have someone in our lives who has strayed away from faith in Jesus Christ. How can we reach out not only to the prodigal, but to the parents, families, and friends of prodigals who struggle to know what to do? Join us for a retreat, here at St. Paul, on these important issues and an introduction to a ministry opportunity that churches everywhere can easily implement. Help families welcome home family members who have wandered away. Cost is $5 per participant. Sign up here: http://www.faithfamilyreunion.com/St-Paul-Hamburg-MI or contact Miriam at miriam@stpaulhamburg.com.

The directory will be updated and reprinted as needed, so if you find any corrections, or your information needs updated, please inform the church office.
