Announcements

Sunday March 17th 1:30 p.m. CALL MEETING

We anticipate that the congregation will be calling a Pastor on Sunday March 17th at 1:30 p.m.  Please mark the date on your calendar and make every effort to be with us. Between now and then, the call committee will be conducting phone interviews with candidates for the call.  Other updates on the call process are part of the February newsletter.  Whomever receives the call will then in effect have two calls.  One would be to continue ministry at his current location.  The other would be to come and serve as the settled pastor here at St. Paul.  We pray that the Lord would lead every step as a Divine Call is truly the work of God among us.

MEMORIAL SERVICE at St. Paul

This Saturday at 11 a.m. Memorial Worship service for a member of our church family, Sandra Rollins.  Sandra bravely fought cancer for a number of years.  Her husband, Don, was a faithful caretaker during this time.  Her daughter, Michelle LeBlanc, and her family (husband Eric and Sandra’s grand-daughter Shaylin), are also part of our church family at St. Paul.  As the Lord has now called Sandra to be with Him, we are thankful for the gift of eternal life and the certain promises of the resurrection. Visitation with the family at the church will be at 10 a.m. and a lunch at church will follow.

MEMORIAL SERVICE in Grand Ledge

The mother of Martha Wohlfeil, Fay Boerger, was called to her heavenly home last Sunday.  Martha and her family are members of St. Paul and Martha served as our church secretary until recently taking a position at our District office.  The Memorial service will be this Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Ledge at 4 p.m. Visitation with the family begins at 3 p.m. and a dinner will follow.

Christian Education

Sunday School

Classes will meet in the lower level from 9:45-10:45. Classes will study the story, “The Sower.”

Fresh Brew

Today we begin a new study on “The Gift of Holy Baptism.” You are invited to join us at 7:30 a.m. for some great Bible study. Good conversation and a fresh cup of coffee.

Pastor’s Sunday class

Dr. Scott Yakimow resumes his presentation and our discussion of ethics as we consider the Christian response to challenges in society. Ethics is one of the classes he teaches at Concordia University in Ann Arbor. We appreciate his leading during this special education opportunity.

Revelations

If you desire copies of any prior lessons, please call the church office and let Pastor Riggs know. Wednesday classes are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The class will meet every Wednesday from now until the end of February. The afternoon and evening classes use the same schedule, so you are welcome at whatever time is convenient from week to week.

February 13 Seven Bowls of Wrath Chapter 16

February 20 Fall of Babylon

February 27 The Millennium & the New Jerusalem

You do not need to read any other book than your Bible to attend. However, if you are interested in reading on your own, a commentary published by Concordia is available for $25. It is marketed as being for the general public but would be a good college textbook on Revelation. Copies are in the back of the church. Speak with Pastor if you wish to purchase a copy.

Monday Women’s Bible Study

The Ladies Bible study meets on Monday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. We will continue our discussion of “Mere Christianity.” If you have the book, read through page 93, “Sexual Morality.”

Men’s Saturday Morning Bible Study

Men enjoy a healthy breakfast. We will begin a new study “The Message of James.” We will meet next Saturday, February 16. Breakfast is served at 8:30 am.

Family Ministry

Kids’ Connection During the 11 am Divine Service

This is a time for 3-year-olds through 2nd-grade students during the 11:00 am Divine Service. The lesson today is “Jesus Blesses Children” found in the gospel of Mark 10:13-16. Children leave for Kids’ Connection after the children’s message and return when the offering is received so that they may participate in a blessing at Holy Communion as well as the close of the worship service.

Welcoming Young Children to Church Faith Milestone

Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children and a parent/guardian are invited to join us for a special event to learn more about St. Paul Lutheran Church family and the place we gather to praise God and worship, TODAY, Sunday, February 10, at 9:45. This will be a short class at the beginning of the Education Hour. Following the class, students will join Sunday School classes, and parents are free to attend the adult class. Worship blessing will be on Sunday, February 24 at the worship service you normally attend.

Help families welcome home family members who have wandered away. Cost is $5 per participant. Fellowship

Fellowship Update

Thanks to everyone who gave an opinion on the suggested Fellowship activities. All of the activities had some interest, but It definitely looks like we will be doing a Road Rally this summer! For those people who showed interest in Game Night, there was a game night held February 8, and another will be February 22 at 7 pm.

Directory Update

The new pictorial directory is done! If you haven’t gotten your copy yet, they are available to pick up after each service. One copy per family, please. A big THANK YOU to all who helped make the directory happen – the directory committee, the phone callers, the appointment check-in ladies, the people who took time to have their pictures taken, and a big Thank You to Chris and Ashleigh Mowers for the lovely family photos and Mowers Photography for doing a beautiful job putting it into print. The directory will be updated and reprinted as needed, so if you find any corrections, or your information needs updated, please inform the church office.

Playgoers

Signup for “Old Time Religion” at Turkeyville Dinner Theatre in Marshall continues until March 10. A synopsis and signup sheet is available in the Fellowship Hall. We will be carpooling. With Playgoers, it’s not necessary to have a “date,” singles are welcome, and there will be someone to ride with whether you’re a driver or rider. For those who have never been to Turkeyville, they serve a traditional turkey dinner before the play and dessert at intermission. There is also time to visit their unique gift shop.
