KIDS’ CONNECTION is a time for 3-year-olds through 2nd grade students at the 11:00 a.m. Divine Service. Children will participate in the first part of the worship service, then head to Kids’ Connection. Today’s lesson is titled, “Ruth is Faithful” (Ruth 1:1-22) Children will return to the Divine Service when the offering is received so that they may participate in a blessing at Holy Communion as well as the close of the worship service.

COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE the St. Paul Community Garden has reaped its first harvest – a lovely bunch of red radishes! And as the radishes ripen, the beans blossom, the squash swell, and the potatoes produce, the weeds are wildly wandering! We can use all of the able-bodied folks with an hour or two of available time to come on down to the garden and lend a hand with weeding and hoeing. Bring your own tools or stop by the shed on the back side of the administration garage and use ours. No need to schedule a time. Come whenever it fits your calendar. Check the garden sign near the front corner for specific jobs or instructions. If you want company, plan on Tuesday mornings and/or Thursday afternoons with Doug or Barb. And by all means, help yourself to what is ready to pick whenever you come.

LUTHERAN LAYMEN’S LEAGUE RETREAT Join members of the Lutheran Laymen’s League for a long weekend of recreation and fellowship. Golf, play softball, and enjoy the outdoor offerings of Michigan in the late summer. Bible study will be offered at various times throughout the weekend. PAINTBALL FOR LAC(7^th and 8^th graders) Our June Activity is PAINTBALL on June 29, 12:15 pm The cost is $15 for the first 16 who sign up. We have a limited number of discount passes available so get your name on the sign up list which will be posted in the Activity Center. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. Get names on the sign up list and make sure everyone you bring has an Emergency Medical and Liability Release Form as well as the release form provided by Futureball. Copies of this form are available on the bulletin board by the sign-up sheet.

LOVE KNOTS is participating with Love Squared in creating afghans for homeless children. Would you like to help? Needed are 8-inch squares made from any fiber and pattern. The squares are for a child’s afghan, so think soft and cuddly with not too many large holes in the pattern. Thirty-two of these individual squares are sewn together to make a single blanket.

Love Knots is also knitting and crocheting baby hats that will be donated to St. Joseph Hospital.  Any pattern or size will work. If you need a pattern or yarn or would like to donate items, contact Mary Brandau or any Love Knot member.

STATEWIDE DIAPER SHOWER sponsored by Lutherans for Life of Michigan May 12 through June 16. This annual project encourages and supports local pregnancy resource centers throughout our state. Please purchase disposable diapers and drop them off in the small fellowship hall or the church office. At the end of the diaper shower we will give them to local agencies to distribute.

SUMMER LUNCH BUNCH JUNE 17—AUGUST 8 As a part of 12 Months of Caring, St. Paul Lutheran Church will be a site for the Salvation Army Summer Lunch Bunch program. This is a free program designed to assist families with their children’s unmet food needs while school is out. This eight-week program provides registered participants with a served lunch once a week and a take-home pantry pack for the rest of the week. Each week will feature educational programs, transportation, games, crafts, physical activities, and lots of fun.

Participant registration forms can be found outside Daisy’s Food Pantry. You can also pre-register by calling (517) 546-4750 ext. 107 or download an application at www.salvationarmylivingston.org.

Every Monday, June 17-August 8, when our church hosts the Summer Lunch Bunch we will need volunteers. If you will be available between 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on these Mondays, please plan on helping.

Throughout the summer we will also need donations of fruit snacks, crackers, pudding, Jell-O, fruit cups, trail mix, granolas, bottled/powdered drinks, canned meals, pasta, soup, mac and cheese, peanut butter, and jelly. Any of these items can be brought into the small fellowship hall and placed in the wood donation box.

It is truly awesome to see the light in our clients’ faces, especially the first time they visit our pantry, as they see the shelves and refrigerators stocked with food for them. FRESH BREW BIBLE STUDY Overwhelmed? Participants of the Fresh Brew Bible Study will gather to discuss the feeling of being overwhelmed. Using the model of the Book of Job and a series called “Suffering Well,” we will explore how God’s people deal with adversity, trouble and temptation. All are welcome. There is no cost for the series. Bring your Bible to the table just inside the Large Fellowship Hall – 7:30 each Sunday morning.

IMAC (the youth group for 5^th and 6^th graders) is going to the Detroit Zoo on Saturday, June 8. We will meet at church at 10 am and return to church by 4 pm. Bring $9 for Zoo admission and money for lunch. The event will include a “creation hunt” to explore God’s amazing creative power and wonder.  Again friends are welcome. Make sure that your friend’s parent completes an Emergency Medical and Liability Release Form.

VOTERS MEETING: On June 9, following the 11 a.m. Divine Service there will be a Voters’ Meeting. The agenda includes a constitution change and possible renovation of the church nursery.

FRESH BREW BIBLE STUDY Overwhelmed? Participants of the Fresh Brew Bible Study will gather to discuss the feeling of being overwhelmed. Using the model of the Book of Job and a series called “Suffering Well,” we will explore how God’s people deal with adversity, trouble and temptation. All are welcome. There is no cost for the series. Bring your Bible to the table just inside the Large Fellowship Hall – 7:30 each Sunday morning.

KIDS’ CONNECTION is a time for 3-year-olds through 2nd grade students at the 11:00 a.m. Divine Service. Children will participate in the first part of the worship service, then head to Kids’ Connection. Today’s lesson is titled, “Paul Describes Genuine Love” based on 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. Children will return to the Divine Service when the offering is received so that they may participate in a blessing at Holy Communion as well as the close of the worship service.

MEN OF INTEGRITY We are now looking at everyday objects in the world around us and how God uses them to connect us to him. The object next Saturday, June 1 is ’KINGS’ and our Biblical touchstones are Matthew 28:20 and Hebrews 13:5. Breakfast, coffee, and juice are provided. This group meets on Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m.

MONDAY WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY continues its study of the book of Revelation chapter 10-11. Come tomorrow or any Monday at 11 a.m.

GLUTEN FREE communion wafers are now available. Inform Pastor Gaertner prior to the service so that we can accommodate your needs.

SUMMER WORSHIP OPPORTUNITY: St. Paul will offer a Monday evening worship service at 7 p.m. during the summer. This service will be offered beginning June 3.

GRADUATE RECOGNITION

June 2 at 9:45 a.m. there will be a special Bible study offered for 2013 high school graduates and their parents. At the 11 a.m. service there will be an opportunity for parents to bless their graduates and as a congregation we will pray for the steadfastness of their faith.

LUTHERAN LAYMEN’S LEAGUE RETREAT Join members of the Lutheran Laymen’s League for a long weekend of recreation and fellowship. Golf, play softball, and enjoy the outdoor offerings of Michigan in the late summer. Bible study will be offered at various times throughout the weekend. All laymen, regardless of membership in the International Lutheran Layman’s League, are welcome to attend. The retreat is on September 5-8 at Camp Arcadia. Get details at

LOVE KNOTS is participating with Love Squared in creating afghans for homeless children. Would you like to help? Needed are 8-inch squares made from any fiber and pattern. The squares are for a child’s afghan, so think soft and cuddly with not too many large holes in the pattern. Thirty-two of these individual squares are sewn together to make a single blanket.

Love Knots is also knitting and crocheting baby hats that will be donated to St. Joseph Hospital.  Any pattern or size will work. If you need a pattern or yarn or would like to donate items, contact Mary Brandau or any Love Knot member.

STATEWIDE DIAPER SHOWER sponsored by Lutherans for Life of Michigan May 12 through June 16. This annual project encourages and supports local pregnancy resource centers throughout our state. Please purchase disposable diapers and drop them off in the small fellowship hall or the church office. At the end of the diaper shower we will give them to local agencies to distribute.

SUMMER LUNCH BUNCH June 17—August 8 As a part of 12 Months of Caring, St. Paul Lutheran Church will be a site for the Salvation Army Summer Lunch Bunch program. This is a free program designed to assist families with their children’s unmet food needs while school is out. This eight-week program provides registered participants with a served lunch once a week and a take-home pantry pack for the rest of the week. Each week will feature educational programs, transportation, games, crafts, physical activities, and lots of fun.

Participant registration forms can be found outside Daisy’s Food Pantry. You can also pre-register by calling (517) 546-4750 ext. 107 or download an application at www.salvationarmylivingston.org.

Every Monday, June 17-August 8, when our church hosts the Summer Lunch Bunch we will need volunteers. If you will be available between 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on these Mondays, please plan on helping.

Throughout the summer we will also need donations of fruit snacks, crackers, pudding, Jell-O, fruit cups, trail mix, granolas, bottled/powdered drinks, canned meals, pasta, soup, mac and cheese, peanut butter, and jelly. Any of these items can be brought into the small fellowship hall and placed in the wood donation box.

Residents of our community were mindful of the interests of others during the U.S. Postal Food Drive this past weekend. Our pantry was the recipient of 808 pounds of various grocery items from the Pinckney post office and 30 pounds from the Hamburg post office. Additionally, we received 814 pounds from the Gleaners food drive. Thanks to the Oldtimers who helped unload the bags and boxes.

If you know someone who needs help with groceries or other needs ask them to call Love INC at (517) 552-3620 to set an appointment. If you are a member, call Arlene Wiltse to arrange for a private appointment in our pantry.

You may help our pantry by dropping off items in the pantry cart by the east door. Current items you may consider donating are Spaghetti O’s, pudding mix, crunchy peanut butter, and mayo/Miracle Whip.

Pastor Evan Gaertner and his family are attending his graduation in St. Paul, Minnesota today. Pastor Gaertner is receiving a Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Preaching degree from Luther Seminary. His thesis project is titled, “Catechetical Preaching: a purposeful element of faith formation in a congregation.”

Mike and Su Hausch are attending Micah Hausch’s graduation from Valparaiso University this weekend.

Pastor Mark Gaertner (Pastor Evan Gaertner’s father) is the presiding minister for the Divine Services today.

ADULTS IN TRAMA: A GROUP INTERVENTION FOR ADULTS EXPERIENCEING TRAUMATIC REACTIONS - In a safe setting, this group intervention is designed to determine individually what has occurred, how it is currently affecting the participant, and provide interventions to address these reactions. Groups are limited to 6 participants. Groups meet on Tuesdays starting June 4 through Sept 10 at Summerwood Center, 10299 E. F4YF LANSING LUGNUTS The whole congregation is invited to join Fellowship for Young Families for a fun evening at a Lansing Lugnuts game on June 15^th @ 7 p.m. This will be a great family night with Christian music, games, baseball, and fireworks to follow after the game. Please fill out the order form found on the bulletin board near the mailboxes and return it to the church office or Erin Fesl no later than May 15^th. Tickets are $10 each.

CALLING ALL GARDENERS- EXPERTS AND NOVICES With the glorious weather, a blessing from our Creator God, it is time to begin work on the St. Paul Community Garden. Weather permitting, Tuesday morning, May 14, from 9 until noon, with your help, planting will begin. Volunteers are needed to make the garden produce the bountiful harvests that we share with the Food Pantry and our congregation. Please prayerfully consider participating in this work as your schedule permits. On the job training is available upon request. Enjoy the fresh air, get plenty of good exercise, and share your energy and time, gifts from our Lord, in this service to His people. STATEWIDE DIAPER SHOWER sponsored by Lutherans for Life of Michigan May 12 through June 16. This annual project encourages and supports local pregnancy resource centers throughout our state. Please purchase disposable diapers and drop them off in the small fellowship hall or the church office. At the end of the diaper shower we will give them to local agencies to distribute.

Summer is almost here, but hunger isn’t taking a vacation.

SUMMER LUNCH BUNCH June 17—August 8 As a part of 12 Months of Caring, St. Paul Lutheran Church will be a site for the Salvation Army Summer Lunch Bunch program. This is a free program designed to assist families with their children’s unmet food needs while school is out. This eight-week program provides registered participants with a served lunch once a week and a take-home pantry pack for the rest of the week. Each week will feature educational programs, transportation, games, crafts, physical activities, and lots of fun.

Participant registration forms can be found outside Daisy’s Food Pantry. You can also pre-register by calling (517) 546-4750 ext. 107 or download an application at www.salvationarmylivingston.org.

Volunteers Needed!!

-   We will paper the Coventry Woods neighborhood with flyers on Tuesday, May 14, 1-4 p.m.

-   There will be a community signup day to register for the Summer Lunch Bunch at the Coventry Woods Clubhouse on May 17, 2-4 p.m.

Every Monday, June 17-August 8, when our church hosts the Summer Lunch Bunch we will need volunteers. If you will be available between 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on these Mondays, please plan on helping.

Throughout the summer we will also need donations of fruit snacks, crackers, pudding, Jell-O, fruit cups, trail mix, granolas, bottled/powdered drinks, canned meals, pasta, soup, mac and cheese, peanut butter, and jelly. Any of these items can be brought into the small fellowship hall and placed in the wood donation box.

DAISY’S PANTRY

For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. 2 Corinthians 1:5

We are so privileged at St. Paul and St. Stephens to be able to share our blessings and to provide comfort to those who visit our pantry. We provide assistance in emergency situations to bridge the gap from being needy to being independent. If you know someone who needs help with groceries or other needs ask them to call Love INC at (517)552-3620 to set an appointment. If you are a member, call Arlene Wiltse to arrange for a private appointment in our pantry.

               You may help our pantry by dropping off items in the pantry cart by the east door. Current items you may consider donating are SpaghettiO’s, pudding mix, crunchy peanut butter and mayo/miracle Whip.

FRESH BREW BIBLE STUDY Overwhelmed? Participants of the Fresh Brew Bible Study will gather to discuss the feeling of being overwhelmed. Using the model of the Book of Job and a series called “Suffering Well,” we will explore how God’s people deal with adversity, trouble and temptation. All are welcome. There is no cost for the series. Bring your Bible to the table just inside the Large Fellowship Hall – 7:30 each Sunday morning.

KIDS’ CONNECTION is a time for 3-year-olds through 2nd grade students at the 11:00 a.m. Divine Service. Children will participate in the first part of the worship service, then head to Kids’ Connection. Today’s lesson is titled, “Lydia is Converted” based on Acts 16:9-15. Children will return to the Divine Service when the offering is received so that they may participate in a blessing at Holy Communion as well as the close of the worship service.

MEN OF INTEGRITY We are now looking at everyday objects in the world around us and how God uses them to connect us to him. The object next Saturday, May 4 is ’rope’ and our Biblical touchstone are Proverbs 3:5, Ephesians 2:8 and Hebrews 12:2. Breakfast, coffee, and juice are provided. This group meets on Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m.

ASCENSION DAY CHICKEN BARBECUE: Join together on May 9 with your brothers and sisters in Christ and celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord. There will be a Chicken Barbeque meal at 6pm. Tickets are available for $5 adults and $3 children. Please buy tickets in advance if possible to help us plan the amount of food to prepare. The Festival Divine Service will be at 7 p.m.

F4YF LANSING LUGNUTS The whole congregation is invited to join Fellowship for Young Families for a fun evening at a Lansing Lugnuts game on June 15^th @ 7 p.m. This will be a great family night with Christian music, games, baseball, and fireworks to follow after the game. Please fill out the order form found on the bulletin board near the mailboxes and return it to the church office or Erin Fesl no later than May 15^th. Tickets are $10 each.

COFFEEHOUSE- During April Coffeehouse will meet from 5 – 6:15 p.m., just prior to confirmation classes. A lite supper will be included so that students will move right into confirmation instruction from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Come and join us for this event for all middle school and high school students.

IMAC (5^th and 6^th graders) “Let make a huge difference!” We will be planting flowers and plants in several places around our community and at our church. The community locations are connected with “12 Months of Caring” by St. Paul all around our community for a variety of people. This will take place on Saturday, May 8, starting at 10:00 a.m. Yes, together we can make a difference.

LAC (7^th and 8^th graders – recently confirmed and those who have completed the first year)  “Let’s Bowl!” On Saturday, May 8, we will meet at church at 4:00 pm to enjoy taking it out on the bowling pins. Cost is $10.00 for 2 games of bowling and shoe rental. Get your name on the “Sign Up” in the Small Fellowship Hall by the kitchen or on the LAC Bulletin Board in the Activity Center.  Of course friends are welcome – make sure your friend has completed the ‘blue’ form, “Liability and Medical Release and Emergency Medical Information Form.

               There has been a lot of kindness shown toward Livingston County residents in need of a little assistance. Daisy’s Pantry has been very appreciative of the continued support of St. Paul, St. Stephens, Gleaners, and Kroger for keeping our shelves well stocked.

               During the month of April a total of 1,387 pounds of food was donated or purchased and we were able to distribute 2,234 pounds of food and other necessities to 19 families (62 individuals).

               If you know of someone who might need food or assistance with other matters, have them call Love INC at (517) 552-3620 to set up an appointment. Pantry needs at this time include: Miracle Whip/mayo, canned Sloppy Joe mix, pop corn, and spices. Please place donations in the cart by the pantry door near the east entrance. Thank you for your continued support.

At this service of praise our very own Vicar Will Hooper and his wife Becky will find where the Holy Spirit is calling him to serve the Church.
